Updated: Mar 31, 2020

About This Game It’s August 2021 and you're recruited by Nakagawa Corp., Japan's leading robot manufacturer. Agrihan, Nakagawa’s private island in the South Pacific was infiltrated. The robots are acting strangely. Agrihan ( Bot Colony) is a Mars testbed staffed mostly by robots - so you'll need to talk to THEM to investigate what happened.Bot Colony ( www.botcolony.com) is unique in that it's currently the ONLY game on the planet relying on AI-based conversation as the main game mechanic. You speak in English with robots (or type) in order to advance in the game. Bot Colony will appeal to players interested in genre-defining games with novel mechanics. If you enjoy figuring out how to get through to robots, command them through actions and investigate - you'll enjoy Bot Colony. The game is played in an eerie South Pacitic setting where modern architecture and robots contrast with the jungle environment. It integrates adventure, simulation, RPG and puzzles into a unique language-based gameplay with a great atmospheric soundtrack. You'll get to experience Artificial Intelligence that is currently in the realm of cinematic fantasy in Her, Ex Machina, iRobot, Blade Runner, 2001 A Space Odyssey. It's a challenging and entertaining experience that will make you realize how literally machines process language, and how much we take for granted when we speak with people.KEY FEATURESType of speak freely and discover the story using your own words. The answers spoken by the robots is generated dynamically. Contrast with typical game storytelling, where canned voice acting is controlled by dialog trees. Experience the eerie atmosphere of a South Pacific island featuring ultra modern architecture and robots amid a lush jungle setting. The techno-romantic mood is enhanced by the original music soundtrack of the game. Play detective and piece together the events that took place in a house in a 48 hour period by exploring the robot's video observations. Work with the robots to scuttle violent sabotage attempts by robot-hating organizations.Game sessions are unique to each player: What you say controls how robots react and what they answer. Sessions of other players will have different dialog than your session. Every session is unique.Make the game your own: Teach robots new knowledge and new commands. Speak or type. The Microsoft Cognitive speech-to-text does an amazing job understanding what you say, irrespective of your accent. When speech-to-text makes mistakes, you can easily correct them. You can combine playing through speech or text according to your preference. Inspired by Bot Colony sci-fi novel, a near future industrial espionage thriller by Eugene Joseph. The novel ( available on Amazon Kindle) explores the verbal abilities of future robots and introduces the 5th law of robotics 'do as people do'. 1075eedd30 Title: Bot ColonyGenre: Adventure, Casual, Indie, RPG, Simulation, Strategy, Early AccessDeveloper:North SidePublisher:North SideRelease Date: 16 Jun, 2014 Bot Colony Free Download [Xforce Keygen] pulsar lost colony bot setup. bot colony walkthrough. bot colony game. pulsar lost colony bot guide. bot colony free download. bot colony steam. bot colony giant bomb. bot colony gameplay. bot colony download. pulsar lost colony bot inventory. bot colony review interesting game, let's keep it alive :). Broken piece of crap game. When you tab out it crashes your computer -10/10 would never play again. Bot Colony is certainly a unique experience. You can use your voice to control the game. You don't have to use your voice, but I would suggest taking the time to train the voice software. It makes the game basically hand free and I feel you get the desired effect. It brings me back to the Dreamcast days when I used to play Seaman and talk to my fish for hours. Fortunately, time has had a positive effect on voice software and Jimmy ( the robot in-game that you talk to) can understand me far better than my virtual Dreamcast fish could ever dream to. It's pretty casual but it is a good time. If you have ever seen Irobot, you know that sometimes it is the way you word your question to a robot that decides how it will respond. There is an element to the game where you have to question Jimmy to find out what happened before you got there. I really enjoyed that. Like I was Will Smith in Irobot. Either way, it was fun and in my opinion worth my time.. This game was extremely ambitious in scope and had it been able to continue I'm sure it could have been really cool. As it currently stands, the game is more of a testament to what it could be rather than anything. Basically, the idea is that you are required to interact with robots in order to perform some rudimentary tasks like rearranging furninture. You do this by talking to them via a microphone.Unfortunately if you don't have a good quality mic, the voice recognition suffers. It also takes a good bit of training to get it to really recognize your voice. This is probably more than any normal gamer is going to want to be bothered with, however if you DO persevere, it's somewhat fascinating. The only other game that seems to have attempted this was a game on the Dreamcast called "Seaman". This game lacks the whimsical charm of Seaman and it's a lot more serious. You also seem to have a lot more freedom in the way you can teach the bots to interact with you. That's right, the bots actually learn from you. It starts out with just a few basic commands for movement, item manipulation, and other things, and when you issue a command the bot doesn't understand, you have the option to teach it how to perform the command using a series of steps from the commands he already knows.I think this could have been the real hook to this game. The "plot" to the story would be a side-quest compared to just trying to teach your bot to do things with a series of basic commands. Still, at times I felt like I was wrestling with the bot to get it to perform an action, not because the bot had a lack of understanding but because the voice recognition was stubbornly refusing to hear a certain word. For example, I'd say cushion, the game would hear "question". As with most forms of voice recognition, it works best with the commands it expects to hear. If you say "what is this" and click on something it invariably works. If you have to be more detailed in your command, expect a word or two to be misheard. Thankfully if you can't get it to understand at all, you can always type the command in directly. Still, if this game had a ton of people talking to it and teaching it, who knows? It could have become Skynet...and then when Valve decided to pull the plug on it, it would unleash terminators to rearrange all our furniture. My toes ache just thinking about it.. In the first time i posted this i was a bit agitated and so i apologise for this.I changed this post with a different perspective. The idea of using voice commands and/or type commands, has a lot of potential. To me the game still feels unfinished as it was a long time ago.Mind that the game is still in early access so give it a chance.(I was hoping it would have been finished by now)I was missing the options to be able to change the graphics further. The I.A. learning ability is a great factor.Sometimes the bot doesn't understand what i ment, but that has a funny side aswell.Sometimes it feels like im lost on what to do or how to do so. (i was waiting for a popup bar of sorts to help me out a bit).As it stands right now, (Mind the time of date that i posted this please).I dont say "dont buy it", but i do say:If you are interested in a game where you are able to use voice commands or type commands, Then try it out! its still in early access so there are flaws ofcouse. Will try again in six months or so.As i do i will chance the review from time to time.I hope this helps out for the person/person's that develop this game.. Bought it for the laughs. Still disappointed. Quick Review: Bot Colony, while still a bit buggy, does some pretty amazing things with natural speech recognition, and even when the robots don't understand your commands it's generally more entertaining than frustrating. Although you currently can't purchase the game from the Steam page, the dev is still selling Steam keys to anyone who understands that the game will probably be shut down and unplayable after this month (March). If you don't mind this caveat, I wholeheartedly recommend that you try out this game before it's gone forever. Long Review: I first played Bot Colony about a year ago before it was released on Steam. At that time, the robots didn't understand enough commands to make the game interesting. Solving puzzles was more about trying to guess which commands the robots recognized than it was about trying to deal with the robot's unique understanding of the world. Fast forward a year, and I find out that not only has the game been released on Steam, but it is shutting down in a month for lack of funding! You see, every time you ask one of the robots a question, it sends that question to some language-parsing servers to analyze and reply to your question. Apparently the sales for Bot Colony have been so low that they could no longer afford this extra step, which would render the game unplayable as soon as the servers are shut down.I was pretty disappointed because I really wanted to try the game one more time, but luckily the dev was still selling keys to those interested. I got the game, and the improvements over the last year were everything I had hoped for. While the robots still rarely do what you want them to, it's no longer due to the fact that they don't recognize certain commands so much as they take everything you say literally. For example, when I ask the robot to "pick up the cup", he asks "which one?" and then proceeds to list every cup in the house. Or, when I tell the robot to "put the block on the dresser above the blue drawer", he balances the block precariously on the very edge of the drawer. As a result, Bot Colony has changed from a rather boring "guess the right word" game, into a game where you really have to consider the inner logic of the robot's mind. At its core it's an adventure game, but the language element adds a really unique puzzle element that I've never seen in another game before.Of course, the game is still an early access game, so there are a few rough edges as well. The walk speed seems a bit too slow for me, so I was constantly running everywhere in the game. There was also one bug that required me to restart the level (outlined below), but it was so funny that it's hard not to forgive it.All in all, I wholeheartedly recommend this game even though it will likely be shut down next month. As long as you understand that the gameplay is about trying to get a somewhat overly-logical robot to follow your commands you should be able to get a lot of enjoyment out of the game within the next few weeks. Check the forums on the Steam hub if you are interested in buying one of the remaining Steam keys from the dev!And because I like to have my cake and eat it too, here's the joke review that I originally wanted to post:In the very first mission of the game you must complete an objective by giving commands to your prospective boss' house robot. I told the robot to pick up what I thought was a pepper shaker, but instead of going for the object I was looking at the robot went over to open a cupboard. Realizing that the robot was going to pick up the wrong object, I quickly said, "Stop!" and the robot froze in mid-action with the cupboard door half-open."Ok, now go back"..."Go backwards"..."Turn left"..."Go"..."Continue moving"..."I just froze you, didn't I?"...10/10 Would crash a multi-millionaire's robot butler again.. Game doesn't work. Period. After speech training, I start the first tutorial. It asks me to thell the robot my name... but it never works. Even if I type it in.Speech/typing... doesn't matter. No response. I'm not in conversation. Also, the assistant robot is not helping me as I've seen in lets play videos... she's totally silent. never heard her.Seems the game is hozed.. well i got this game thought it would be really fun to play......then the problems started it would boot and go through the into just fine. when it got to the loading screen to go into the mission it just crashes out. i ran a trouble shoot and it says that its not compatible with windows 8 i thing they should have put that in the information about the game so people didnt waste there time. i hope there will be an update that will help with this problem.. Quite an interesting concept. The gameplay is pretty nice and engaging.I like this game. Major Update Launched today ( + Episode 3 Prototype Video): We’re happy to bring you a major update focused on what makes Bot Colony unique: language-based investigation. You now have a second mission in the Intruder episode: learn more about the family members and find out why the house was empty – by asking questions that will trigger Jimmy ‘s Robot’s Visual Memories (RVM’s). RVM’s are videos of significant events a robot (Jimmy in this case) witnessed. If you do well, you’ll see all the 14 RVM’s – your new challenge in Intruder, in addition to erasing all traces of the intrusion. You’ll be offered the RVM mission after you restore 18 objects to their original position (easier now since you can now Continue from the last checkpoint!). With this update, Bot Colony offers more than commanding robots – the focus of the previous version. Now, you can investigate using your own words to discover the key information you need to advance in the game. To do this, we made a major improvement to our Natural Language Understanding pipeline – temporal Question Answering. We’ve always wanted to bring you a credible experience of speaking with machines. We hope that this update delivers on this vision. We went to great lengths to reduce the percentage of IDK (I don’t know) answers. The key idea was to put in place a principle guiding what a robot should know: a robot should be able to answer questions about events that he experienced first-hand. Jimmy is now able to tell you how he came to know any item of information you’re uncovering (how do you know that?) – he’ll answer I saw it, or I heard it. To offer a completely credible experience, we’ve actually placed Jimmy and the characters in the scene, and then enacted the situations Jimmy observed using our text-to-animation technology: we moved the characters around like in a theatre performance and created a textual database out of their movements and utterances, that COULD have been used to drive our text-to-animation technology IF 1) we had IK for all the animations you’ll see (slapping, hugging, playing with toys, etc.) 2) animation quality was good enough. Since 1) and 2) are not yet there, the cut scenes were done by animators – but in principle they could have been generated just by commanding the characters to do what they do. The distances from Jimmy to another character he observes and the angles were logged during this enactment process, and you can query them. We’ve done this for 48 hours for the Intruder house. In the future, we may extend this to Arrival and other levels. By placing Jimmy in the situations he actually witnesses and recording what he saw and heard, we get more credible, complete and coherent information about what happened (Jimmy would be able to tell you who he saw at 11:30:41 on Thursday 27 August 2021, and that the distance was 10.3 m). This approach provides better coverage for question answering and reduces IDK – previously, Jimmy’s fact base had to be written manually. This is why this update took several months to release. We plan to continue investing in making our robots more ‘intelligent’, and enabling you to get to information irrespective of the words you’re using – this is what is unique about the Bot Colony game experience, that no other game offers. We appreciate any feedback about things that didn’t work as you expected. Finally, with this Update we’re also releasing a video of Riot (Landfall Episode 3) Prototype. In the Riot Humanity Test, you converse with robots about what emotions a certain situation is likely to trigger – their goal is to learn this to be able to able to react like a person ( simulate a person’s emotional behaviour through quasi-emotions, as described in the Bot Colony novel). All done through conversation, this is truly genre-defining gameplay!UPDATE FEATURES AND HOW TO PLAY. Major Update: Checkpoints everywhere, Big Brother unleashed, robot personalities, improved speech-to-text: Checkpoints everywhere. MEGA UPDATE: New voice recognition, Achievements and more: With new speech recognition technology, Achievements, NLU improvements and more content in Arrival – this major upgrade is a real ‘game changer’. Even if you’ve played Bot Colony before – it's worth playing it again. You'll find it plays very differently - it’s a totally new, smoother, more immersive experience! We’ve integrated the Microsoft Cognitive Services speech API. No more speech training! Click Enter, start speaking, and click Enter again when you finish speaking. Check the text as it takes shape in the text box – you’ll find that much less editing is required. This upgrade is only available for Windows 8 and Windows 10 ( because Windows 7 doesn’t support websockets which is required by the cloud-based speech recognition, sorry!). More background here http://steamcommunity.com/games/263040/announcements/detail/2171147026184566319 - there's also a Microsoft-approved press release on this Monday morning. We’ve promised the next major release will have ACHIEVEMENTS. We're now delivering on this promise: 18 achievements, with more to come in the future. The game understands references to objects much better. You can now click on an object before you issue a robot command to put it in context. There’s more story to explore in the Arrival level.http://botcolony.com/media.php was redesigned to chronicle the game’s evolution. If you enjoy the game, please review it on the Bot Colony store page.PLEASE HELP! We need to get over 50 reviews to be more visible in searches. Please Recommend Bot Colony to help us bring you more cool features :). Battle Girls Game Release: Dharker Studio and Brightly Studios latest game is now live on Steam.http://store.steampowered.com/app/404170Checkout the game now and be the latest guy to pilot Mechs alongside a group of female co-pilots, and maybe have a romance along the way.. Bot Colony NLU technology - featured post in Gamasutra: For those interested in the more technical side of Bot Colony, today Gamasutra featured my blog post containing quite a bit of technical information about the game's innovative Natural Language Understanding pipeline. The material featured in the article is the meat of our next update (should be available in the next few days). Take a look!http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/EugeneJoseph/20140626/219765/Natural_Language_Understanding_and_TexttoAnimation_in_Bot_Colony.php. Text-to-Animation video: We'd appreciate your feedback on the text-to-animation idea described here (spoiler alert: Intruder will be much easier once you see this! BTW, this was done through speech, and it shows game performance with a trained profile isn't bad at all): https://www.dropbox.com/s/pai63dfy04530gx/Text-to-animation.mp4WHY THIS MATTERS?In Bot Colony, you can command robots to do things. What if we made this available as a tool in which you could import your own characters, a setting of your choice, and you could command the characters using a text script? (as you do in Intruder). Add special effects and editing tools, and you'd have what it takes to produce your own CG videos. With appropriate controls to synchronize character behaviour and speech, you could also make your own games (so, a modding tool). The key idea is to create animation through language, which opens this up to anyone (today, it's only animators).A new medium of creative expression. Thoughts?. Patch: Last 2 achievements: To build on the last announcement - now all the 18 achievements are functional, which means you can now get Investigation Training and Clue Removal Training.IN THE SHORT TERMThe feedback we received says the training is too long. We'll bring you shorter, more experimentation-based training. You'll learn by doing rather than have Miki give you a guided tour - it's more exciting to get a goal and figure it out yourself. The current training will be still be available, but we'll make it on demand. You'll get the two achievements above if and when you do it. We're thinking to let you chose the mission you'd like to start with in Intruder, or let you play both simultaneously (the software supports that). This way, you could then choose to do the training for the particular mission (Investigation or Clue Removal). In Discussions, there's a new thread about Arrival, we're watching it carefully and will react. We'll bring you more content in Arrival, and more achievements. It's encouraging for us, the devs, to see some community engagement and people who care about our game. Finally, if you purchased the game on Steam, please review and Recommend if you like it, we're still shy of 50 reviews we need to get more visibility in the store. Thank you!. Pulling the plug on Bot Colony: I am very sad to announce that we will have to shut down Bot Colony due to lack of sales. Bot Colony sales are so low we can't even cover the cost of the servers running the Natural Language Understanding software - which is $524 per month ( we don't even sell 2 units per day, which would enable us to keep the servers running). To give you some figures, the NLU technology powering Bot Colony cost around $20M and many years to develop. It is probably one of the best NLU technologies available in the world today. The game itself probably cost another $2M - $3M. On the other hand, the lifetime sales of the game to date are about $10K - not even one day of operating costs for us when we were fully staffed (we worked on it for 7 years). The update that we launched last Friday cost about $460,000 to develop. Incidentally, this update features some really innovative, unique gameplay, and I urge those who bought the game to try it - we worked really hard on it. When we released the update on Friday, we made public a video showing what we had achieved in Episode 3. Unfortunately, all of this only brought in a measly $200 in gross sales (we went up from 793 lifetime units to 814). This was the last straw that led to the decision today to shut the game down - 96 hours after launching the update. I've subsidized Bot Colony for years, and as a result I now owe $5M to the banks. My house - and it's a nice house that I love where I've lived the last 15 years - is on the market. I've had to lay off 40 of our employees - most of our staff - because of the lack of sales. It is a tragedy, especially because we've put our hearts into this game, believing we will change the industry by enabling players to converse with the characters in games. I've always enjoyed taking care of our customers, so I cringe at the thought of pulling the plug, but we don't have a choice. A customer wrote: This is an awesome update. Thank you for continuing to work on this. I've been excited about Bot Colony since I got it last June. Such a great concept! Thank you! The concept of characters that understand what the player says is unique and innovative, but may be ahead of its time. Not many people get excited about it (or know that Bot Colony game exists). I'll admit to inadequate marketing, problems with immature tech (and speech to text), an inexperienced dev team, etc - many factors that I did not foresee in 2007, when we started work on Bot Colony. Given the opportunity, I would have done a few things differently - but now it's too late.I realize that some of you paid money to buy a game that will soon be impossible to play - because it requires online servers that cost money to keep running, while no money comes in. I have advised Steam of the situation, and Bot Colony is no longer available to buy - in order to minimize the fallout when it will stop. We will keep the servers running until March 15, to give you enough time to enjoy the game that you bought. I hope you'll consider this fair. I'm offering to publish another video that tells the entire Bot Colony story - all the 12 episodes of Bot Colony, if you really care to see it (let's say if at least 10 people ask for it ). If anybody wants to buy Bot Colony knowing it will die March 15 - talk to Steam, and maybe they will sell it to you. For those who want to know the story that inspired Bot Colony and understand what robots could do in the near future, the Bot Colony novel is available here http://www.amazon.ca/Bot-Colony-Novel-Present-Future-ebook/dp/B00K7O6BSE To our few fans, thank you for supporting us and for playing our game!
